Wills & Probate
We all know the importance of making a Will, but so often during our daily routine there are other matters arising which take precedence. By putting off the event you are at risk of falling into the situation whereby you sadly pass away suddenly, without a will. This is known as "dying intestate" and means that your estate then becomes subject to the Laws of Intestacy.
It might be that these Laws, once applied, provide for your surviving loved ones just as you would have wanted, but the point is, your wishes will not necessarily be honoured. Why relinquish control over such a sensitive matter when you do not have to? You naturally want to provide for your loved ones in the event of your passing – Making a Will allows you to do this, and to be specific about it, too.
Your marital status, too, can affect the outcome of dying intestate, so please do not let this happen. When you come to see us there will be an open and honest discussion about your financial situation, potential executors of the Will as well financial provision for spouse / partner and children.
Probate
Probate is the legal process of validating a Will, and the management of Will’s directions, for example to appointment of executors, liaison with the court, etc. Chris Stevenson Solicitors’ highly experienced team is on hand to provide all the required support, in a sensitive and understanding manner.
