24hr Crime Service
Eaton Smith operates a 24 hour Emergency Call Out Service. If you, or a relative, or a friend are arrested or are asked to attend voluntarily at the police station, then call us immediately. We can provide advice and assistance over the telephone and in person at the police station.
Attending the police station as a suspect in a criminal investigation can be an extremely traumatic and frightening experience. The questions you are asked and the replies you give are crucial in terms of whether or not you are charged with a criminal offence. You have the right to free legal advice; unfortunately some people do not exercise their rights. This can have serious consequences.
The police have our out of office telephone numbers and there should always be someone there to speak to you should the need arise.
Court Proceedings
If you instruct us to represent you in either the Magistrates or the Crown Court, we will undertake all the necessary preparation as promptly as possible to ensure that your case is presented properly and efficiently. Representation at the Magistrates Court is often covered by Legal Aid and it is our policy to apply for this at the earliest opportunity. If you are not eligible for Legal Aid, where possible we will advise you in advance as to how much your case is likely to cost.
It is important to contact us as soon as you are aware that proceedings may be pending against you. Please ensure that you keep your appointment in order to give us adequate time to prepare properly on your behalf. Bring all relevant papers including summonses etc with you when you attend interview. In the Magistrates Court we will arrange for representation by an experienced Solicitor.
In the Crown Court we ensure your case is expertly prepared and arrange for representation by a Barrister. If appropriate, we will instruct experts i.e. medical consultants, forensic scientists to prepare reports to assist your case. Whatever your problem, our experienced crime team can help you.
