Starring role for Yorkshire Sports Lawyer
Leading Yorkshire sports lawyer Peter McCormick will be looking at the latest sports disputes at a major international conference next month.
Mr McCormick is senior partner of McCormicks Solicitors of Harrogate, whose clients include the Premier League, Leeds United, and Yorkshire County Cricket Club. He will be speaking about disputes and their legal ramifications at the12th International Sports Law and Business Conference at the Sofitel St James Hotel in London on Thursday 29 April.
The conference, organised by think tank C5, is being held in a year which has seen sport make the front pages with headlines on Thierry Henry’s handball in the World Cup play off against Ireland; Formula 1’s “Crashgate”; Rugby’s Union’s “Bloodgate” and the collapse of Setanta.
The conference is aimed at sporting governing bodies, national associations, clubs, individuals, sponsors and commercial partners and will cover wide-ranging topics, such as the current and future impact of politics on sport; celebrity endorsements in the light of Henry’s handball and the Tiger Woods revelations; and how sport should address cheating, discipline and dispute management.
Speakers include the heads of legal for Sky Sports, BBC Sport and ITV Sport, the senior sponsorship lawyer for London 2012 and the President of the National Anti-Doping Panel.
McCormicks has a national reputation for its sports law work and Peter McCormick is described as a “star figure” by the latest edition of legal guide Chambers UK and as “a striker who any informed client would choose to lead his team” by the UK Legal 500. He is a Trustee of the Football Foundation and Director of Football Stadia Improvement Fund Ltd.
