Glenn Sharpe

Position: Partner

Glenn is a partner and heads the Planning team in the Leeds office. He has a wide ranging practice that includes planning, highways and environmental matters. Glenn is an experienced advocate and regularly appears at Public Inquiries.

Glenn was formerly a senior local government solicitor and his particular area of expertise includes infrastructure, regeneration and comulsory purchase, waste planning, utilities, aviation and highways matters. He now advises clients in the public and private sectors has acted on behalf of residential developers, substantial retail operators, waste operators, industrial manufacturing clients and companies in the energy sector.

Glenn is an accomplished public speaker and regularly appears at conferences and training events. He contributes to a number of professional journals and has recently had articles published in the Waste Planning journal and Environment Business Magazine.

MAJOR TRANSACTIONS

Acted on behalf of North York Moors National Park Authority in successfully opposing a Judicial Review of its decision to grant planning permission for the development of an animal waste incinerator.
Acted on behalf of Manchester City Council at a public inquiry into the Longsight CPO and associated highways orders. The scheme was a major Regeneration project involving private sector developers and Housing Associations working in partnership with the Council as part of a PFI Housing improvement programme.
Acted on behalf of Barnsley MBC, including acting as advocate at the public inquiry in successfully opposing a proposal for a large mixed use development in the Green Belt.
Acted on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council in promoting the A1073 Spalding to Eye Highway Improvement Scheme CPO and associated orders. The Scheme concerned the construction of a 21 km highway and resulted in a large and complex public inquiry. All of the objections were overcome and the orders were successfully confirmed.
Acted on behalf of West Lindsey District Council in promoting a town centre regeneration scheme and associated CPO.
Advised a large corporate client on planning and associated environmental issues relating to its acquisition of a waste management company together with a large hazardous waste landfill and processing facility in the east of England.
Acted on behalf of an AIM listed Company regarding proposals to develop a depleted oil field for the storage of gas. The project involved advising in relation to all planning, environmental and compulsory purchase issues arising from the storage proposal as well as the construction of pipelines and associated infrastructure.
Acted on behalf of a waste processing company in successfully defending enforcement action and securing planning permission to import 500,000 tonnes of inert waste in order to construct a golf course.
Acted on behalf of a developer client, including acting as advocate at public inquiry, in securing planning permission for a substantial development of affordable housing in the Midlands.
Acted on behalf of Yorkshire Forward in relation to planning aspects of the Coalfields Regeneration Programme including drafting the planning agreements relating to the redevelopment of several former colliery sites.
Advised a large discount retailer in relation to planning and associated highway agreements for the construction of several new stores in the south and east of England.
Advises NATS (en Route) PLC in relation to impacts on its radar and air traffic management systems.
